OK, you clicked on the link to see a toddler drink beer and smoke a cigarette? What kind of sicko are you? I guess the kind that comes to websites like this and loves to be a voyeur of poverty porn? Shame on you. Don’t get me wrong; it’s disturbing to see this kid do these things, as you can’t help but wonder what other fucked up stuff he will be exposed to. Yet do we really need to see it? What is that weird twisted part of us that slows down to witness first-hand a car crash that took someone’s life? Do we get a rush of self-righteous indignation as we look down on people demonstrating these lowest-of-low parenting skills? As a parent, unless you have done the same, you cannot watch it without feeling slightly better at parenting than those two morons. Living in Spain myself, I at least know to cross those two off my short list of potential babysitters.
This video is making its rounds on many parent sites, and should be under the “pious parents” tag. If the headline read, “10 seconds of a child abused,” which is in reality what’s going on, there would be outrage at its being posted, yet instead, if they appeal to the bent reality tourists in us, we watch it the same as we watch a monkey making a cup of tea dressed in a hat and tie.
